The Phyllostachys Nigra ' punctata is a form of the black bamboo - one of the most distinctive bamboos of the Phyllostachys group. The canes can often appear as dark and shining as polished ebony and look stunning when mixed with other green or golden bamboo.
The 'Punctata' has some variation in the colour of the culms, often going from a dark black spotted culm to deep black or even sometimes a purple tinge.
The black bamboo is best used a specimen on its own against a light background to show off those dark canes.
