This shrub is not a bamboo, but certainly heavenly. It is a slowly suckering shrub, related to Berberis and Mahonia, producing upright, largely unbranching stems topped by tiers of the most elegantly divided leathery leaves.

New growth is tinted bronzy-red, a tint repeated at the onset of cold weather in autumn. Conspicuous sprays of white flowers are produced in summer followed, in a good season, by bright red berries.

It will grow in practically any soil, taking extreme drought in its stride. Also good for containers.

2L plants supplied approx 40-45cm high
