The Fargesia Rufa has become widely popular due to its tidy habit, quick growing ability and unusual rich red colouring of the sheaths on new culms.
The Rufa has quite a short growing habit with a slight arching form. New culm sheaths are a red orange colour and the leaves are narrow and pale green.
This bamboo is probably one of the best choices for pots due to it requiring very little maintenance apart from watering. It also works well as a low hedge as it generates a good number of new culms each year and regenerates quickly from heavy pruning and thinning.
