The Chimonobambusa Tumidissinoda is a relatively rare bamboo in the UK originally from China. It is referred to as the 'Walking Stick Bamboo' as it was used for centuries to make walking sticks in Szechwan.
This bamboo has beautiful swollen culm nodes - almost saucer like in shape - which are very prominent all the way up each ruch green culm. Combined with a heavy mass of fine, long narrow foliage which hangs artisitically from the upper brances this bamboo is one to be admired on its own in an open space in the garden.
This specimen should however be grown somewhere with lots of space or contained with a rhizome barrier. Alternatively, if you have a smaller garden you can grow in a large container (although they may not reach their full height and thickness, their stunning characteristics will still be evident and just as beautiful).
This bamboo prefers a warm and sheltered position in the garden with light shade.
